Karlovy Vary – Beata Parkanová’s second film Slovo will premiere in the Great Hall of the Thermal Hotel this evening. In the afternoon, the book Moje máma Jana Brejchová will be baptized. Memories of the famous actress were captured in it by her daughter Tereza Brodská.
Slovo is one of the few period films in the main competition of the Karlovy Vary festival. Set in 1968 and 1969, it tells the story of a small-town notary’s family and how difficult it is to maintain moral credit in difficult times. According to the organizers, the superbly told and originally conceived intimate drama, whose heroes will go through a difficult test in the summer of 1968, is dominated by the filigree refined performances of Martin Finger and Gabriela Mikulková.
American actor, director and screenwriter Liev Schreiber will be introduced to the festival audience again today. The competition German film Second Class will also have its premiere.
