83 percent of corona patients were hospitalized because of covid-19

Four out of five inpatients with covid-19 from 1 June to 31 October this year were hospitalized and ill due to covid-19

It shows preliminary results from a study conducted by the Statens Serum Institut (SSI).

15,425 coronary-related admissions in which the patient tested positive during the period have been examined.

Here, 82.6 percent were hospitalized because they were ill due to coronavirus.

13.9 percent of the patients were hospitalized and had corona, but had no symptoms or disease compatible with covid-19.

They could, for example, be hospitalized due to a fracture, pregnancy or concussion, it is mentioned.

The last 3.5 percent of the patients in the study had symptoms compatible with covid-19, but were not diagnosed with it. They were therefore possibly only hospitalized because of the corona.

The study is relevant as daily number of admissions and new admissions with coronavirus is an important figure in epidemic surveillance.

However, SSI’s daily figures do not take into account whether the patient is hospitalized due to covid-19 or with covid-19.

On Wednesday, 369 people with coronavirus were admitted to Danish hospitals. Exactly how many of them are hospitalized due to coronavirus is not known.

The left wants more precise figures

According to Politiken, the government’s independent independent expert group has called for ‘real-time data on whether a patient is hospitalized with covid-19 or due to covid-19’.

The Liberal Party’s health spokesman, Martin Geertsen, will now demand more precise figures.

“We simply need to get more nuanced information about the strain on our hospitals. Partly who lies because of the corona. Partly who lies because of everything else ».

“We need real-time data, also at bedtime, as, as far as I have heard, it has developed in a positive direction with shorter hospital stays. And it paints a different picture of the epidemic than the government’s, “Martin Geertsen told Politiken on Wednesday.

In addition to the 369 hospitalized on Wednesday, there were also 3,907 new cases of infection. This is the highest daily number in 2021.
