5G Deutsche Telekom now also available on 700 MHz

Deutsche Telekom is now also taking 700 MHz frequencies in its home country in use for 5G. Telefónica (O2) and Vodafone previously announced that they would use these frequencies.

Deutsche Telekom even wants to use this band exclusively for 5G, the spectrum should form the backbone of its 5G network.

Spread throughout Germany, 1100 Telekom masts transmit a 10 MHz wide signal from 768 to 770 MHz.

Telefónica, Vodafone and Telekom already bought 5G frequencies at an auction in 2015. At the time, the frequency auction raised five billion euros, of which approximately one billion euros was for the 700 MHz frequencies.

However, these first had to be freed from DVB-T, or wireless digital television.
