3D Systems sells Simbionix medical simulations

Spo­leč­nost 3D Systems announced on July 28, 2021 that it had signed a final agreement to sell its Simbionix medical simulation business to Sur­gi­cal Science Sweden, a leading supplier of virtual reality simulators for medical education, for a purchase price of US $ 305 million, subject to customary closing conditions and modifications.

This event will complete 3D Systems’ spin-off initiative to focus solely on its strategic intent to be a leader in providing additive manufacturing solutions for applications in growing markets that require highly reliable products.
Thanks to this transaction, Simbionix will be integrated with Surgical Science and create a leading company in the market of simulation of medical procedures, including advanced robotic surgery. Simbionix complements and strengthens Surgical Science’s position with a broad portfolio of simulators in areas such as general surgery, endovascular procedures, endoscopy, urology, orthopedics, ultrasound and robotic surgery. Simbionix also brings long-term cooperation with leading companies in the field of medical technologies and academic institutions, which are at the forefront of the development of new robotic surgery technology and surgical procedures.
Simbionix reported sales of $ 40.8 million in 2020. 3D Systems expects to complete the Simbionix transaction during August 2021.
