The court has ordered to send 22 people, including six former managing directors of the mine, to jail in a case filed in connection with a scandal involving about 145,000 metric tonnes of coal from the Barapukuria mine in Parbatipur, which has caused a stir across the country. Judge Mahmudul Karim of the Dinajpur Special Judge’s Court canceled their bail and ordered them to be sent to jail when the officers appeared in court on Wednesday (January 13th), the day the case was framed.
It is learned that on July 24, 2016, Manager (Administration) Anisur Rahman filed a case with Parbatipur Model Police Station against 19 officials of the mine for stealing 1,44,844 metric tonnes of coal worth about Tk 230 crore from Barapukuria mine.
As the case was registered with the ACC, Deputy Director of the ACC head office Samsul Alam was appointed as the investigating officer. On behalf of Shamsul Alam, Dinajpur ACC Deputy Director Abu Hena Ashikur Rahman filed a chargesheet in the Dinajpur court on July 24, 2019 against 23 people, including seven former managing directors (MDs). Among them is Mahbubur Rahman, former managing director of the mine.
According to the chargesheet, the accused were involved in embezzling 1,43,626.99 tonnes of coal from January 2007 to July 19, 2016 in collusion with each other. Its estimated market value is 243 crore 26 lakh 72 thousand rupees. The accused have committed a punishable offense under Section 5 (2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act. In addition to the plaintiffs, nine people were added to the chargesheet and five people were asked to be dropped from the list of accused as they were not involved in the incident.

Habib Uddin Ahmed, former general manager (GM, administration) Shariful Alam, company secretary Abul Kashem Pradhania, Abu Taher. Nuruzzaman Chowdhury (GM-Mine Operations), Khaledul Islam Deputy General Manager (Store), Masudur Rahman Hawladar Manager (General Services), Ashok Kumar Haldar Manager (Production Management), Arifur Rahman Manager (Maintenance and Operations), Saiyak Security), Khalilur Rahman Deputy Manager (Coal Handling and Management), Morsheduzzaman Deputy Manager (Maintenance and Operations), Habibur Rahman Deputy Manager (Production Management), Zahidur Rahman Deputy Manager (Mine Development Manager) Ventilation Management) and Jobayer Ali Deputy General Manager (Mine Planning and Operations).
Dinajpur court police inspector Israel Hossain also confirmed that the accused had been sent to jail, saying Wednesday was the day of the trial. However, the hearing was not held.
