2 signs of cancer that can be WORSE in the morning

Cancer symptoms can appear as soon as you wake up, according to a doctor.

Cancer symptoms are often vague and ill-defined, making the disease difficult to diagnose.

While it’s easy to dismiss subtle new changes, they could indicate a life-threatening condition.

According to Dr. Deborah Lee of Dr. Fox Online Pharmacy, how you feel first thing in the morning could hold clues, she writes Express.

Headaches and coughs that feel “worse in the morning” could be red flags that shouldn’t be ignored.

Headaches

The doctor explained that brain tumors “characteristically” trigger headaches that are worse in the morning.

Dr Lee said: “When you lie in bed overnight, cerebrospinal fluid builds up in the brain because the tumor blocks its natural circulation.

“The headache then tends to get better as the day goes on.”

According to a study published in the journal Neurology, approximately 77 percent of brain cancer patients suffer from tension-type headaches.

The NHS explains that the key sign of a tension headache is that it is felt on both sides of the head.

The doctor stated that although it is felt on both sides, the pain can be “stronger on the side of the tumor”.

She added: “It is important to stress that the vast majority of patients with headaches will not have a brain tumour.”

However, it is essential to see a family doctor for any new symptoms that worry you, the doctor advised.

Other telltale signs of brain tumors can include seizures, feeling sick and tired, personality changes, feeling sleepy, memory loss, numbness and weakness on one side of the body, difficulty speaking, and changes in vision.

Cough

A cough is considered one of the key signs of lung cancer, but this symptom can also be worse in the morning.

Dr Lee said: “Coughing is a reflex to protect infecting organisms from reaching the lungs.

“In lung cancer, the tumor can partially block the airway and retain mucus overnight.

“Many lung cancer patients are smokers and usually have a smoker’s cough, which is also often more bothersome in the morning.

“At night, while you sleep, your mouth and upper airways can dry out and become irritated.”

Although a morning cough does not necessarily guarantee that you have this deadly condition, it is still important to get checked out.

Dr. Lee recommended seeing a family doctor, especially if you have a three-week cough that won’t go away.

“Go to your GP straight away if you have worrying symptoms such as chest pain, coughing up blood, difficulty breathing or feeling unwell,” she added.
