17th Belgrade International Architecture Week – BINA 2022

17th edition of the Belgrade International Architecture Week – BINA 2022 will be held from May 26 to July 7. The focus of the event will be the presentation of current competitions for the city of Belgrade (2021/2022) and the European Union Award for Contemporary Architecture – “Miss van der Roe” (2022) at representative exhibitions in the Art Gallery of the Cultural Center of Belgrade.

Interactive approach, BINA will bring the current events on the architectural scene closer to the public, which will affect the physiognomy and future of life and appearance of cities in our country and in the world. Other activities that will accompany the exhibition programs will include walks, workshops, discussions, lectures by the authors of the awarded solutions and more.

STAGE 2022 is opening May 26 with the exhibition “Awards and Competitions 2021-2022”, which will last until June 12, 2022. This exhibition will present the winning solutions selected at seven recent architectural competitions for the city of Belgrade, organized by the Association of Architects of Serbia (UAS) and the Association of Architects of Belgrade (DAB).

The audience will have the opportunity to get acquainted with the architectural and urban proposals to which the expert jury awarded the first three prizes. The exhibition will feature competitions for: part of the block between Kralja Milana, Svetozara Markovića, Nemanjina and Kralja Milutin streets in Belgrade; construction-expansion of the existing depot of the National Library of Serbia; the pavilion of the Museum of Contemporary Art in Belgrade; creative-innovative multifunctional center “Ložionica”, Mostar loop, Belgrade; metro station line 1 (phase 1) of the Belgrade metro; new buildings of the Faculty of Music and the Faculty of Applied Arts in Belgrade. The exhibition will be accompanied by lectures and walks with authors who will introduce us to their ideas, both at the exhibition and at the locations themselves.

Exhibition “European Award for Contemporary Architecture 2022 / EU Mies Award” The Miss van der Roe Foundation, curated by Ivan Blasi, will last from June 16 to July 7, 2022. The European Union Prize for Contemporary Architecture “Miss van der Roe” is awarded every other year. It recognizes the quality of architectural production in Europe and draws attention to the great contribution of European professionals, the development of new ideas and construction technology. All 532 nominated projects from 41 countries will be shown in digital format at the exhibition in Belgrade. Special emphasis will be placed on 40 shortlisted projects, as well as two award-winning projects. A special segment of the exhibition will be the presentation of Serbian selections that have been regularly participating in the nomination for this prestigious award since 2009.

BINA is also a co-organizer exhibition “Nikola Dobrović under the flags of modern movements” dedicated to the 125th anniversary of the birth of Nikola Dobrović, the great man of our architecture. On that occasion, a large retrospective exhibition opens on May 24 in the SANU Gallery. In cooperation with the Faculty of Architecture, a student competition was organized with the topic of the reconstruction of the General Staff. The students’ competition works will be exhibited at an open-air exhibition in Knez Mihailova Street, on May 27.

And BINA exhibition “Bring your project” traditionally, young authors are presented at the beginning of their careers, this time “Modelart Architects” from Novi Sad. This exhibition will be open 2. juna in the BINA cabin (Mila Milunovića 1, Faculty of Fine Arts).

Piranesi Award Exhibitiona review of recent architecture from the region, which in recent years includes a large number of the best student works, will be opened 23. each in the Hall of the Faculty of Architecture (Bulevar Kralja Aleksandra 73 / II). As in previous years, BINA, in cooperation with the partners of the EU Visegrad Fund project, will realize a workshop called “Joint Planning of Block 37”, which aims to strengthen the link between residents and open public space of this block. In the discussion of experts and the local community, conclusions will be reached on current problems and potentials within the open public space. As a result of this activity, interventions are expected, such as recycling points or proposals for arranging smaller units within the open public space that the local community can comment on and evaluate throughout the event. In this way, common values ​​are recognized and established within the space of everyday life. The workshop will be realized in cooperation with the Faculty of Architecture of the University of Belgrade and the Association of Citizens “Block 37”.

A special segment of the program is GOOD URBAN LIFE 2 – which developed after last year’s successful round table at the Cultural Center of Belgrade, where participants of various professions and interests led a debate on what is good urban life and how it works contributions. This year, GOOD URBAN LIFE is taking to the streets and implementing interactive modules with partners at several locations in Belgrade, each with a specific theme of importance for quality life in an urban environment. Five topics will be covered: health, care, food, play and the digital environment. Students of the Belgrade Faculty of Architecture and the Vienna Technical University will do their best to give their contribution to the good urban life of Belgrade at a joint workshop.

Like every year a significant part of the program are BINA walks “National Library of Serbia / Depot Expansion”, “New Century Ložionica”, “Museum of Contemporary Art in Belgrade / Expansion”, evening walk by Gardoš, walk “Urban Memory of Donji Dorćol”, walk by Terazije and History of Belgrade Fortress, with a review of unrealized project architect Nikola Dobrović “. As part of the BINA OPEN HOUSE program, a program dedicated to the Mia Dorcol business facility will be organized, as well as guidance through the Adriatic-Danube Bank (former Jugobanka, then AIK Bank and now MK Foundation).

After Novi Sad, Zrenjanin, Pancevo and Kragujevac, This year’s BINA trip will be dedicated to the city of Sabacand will be realized under the name “Transformation of public spaces in Sabac in the period from 2015-2020” in cooperation with JAD.

Also, a series of lectures in the BINA seminar program will be dedicated to professionals in the area of ​​the reconstructed BEKO building. Within the educational programs, a significant publication “Urban Architectures in Interwar Yugoslavia” by Tanja Konli and the magazine “Time of Architecture – Architecture and Urbanism in Valjevo 2010-2020” will be presented, and a student workshop “(re) CONSTRUCTION: Poster and Dobrović” will be held in cooperation with the Academy of Technical Vocational Studies Belgrade.
