1069 COVID cases detected in Latvia per day, five people died

Over the past day, 1,069 new cases of COVID-19 have been identified in Latvia, five infected have died, according to the Center for Disease Prevention and Control (SPKC).

The deceased were in the 45 to 80 age group. Among the deceased, one patient was in the age group from 45 to 50 years old, one – from 65 to 70 years old, three more – from 70 to 80 years old.

According to the SPKC, on Friday, Latvia recorded the highest daily increase in cases of coronavirus since February 2, when 1,231 cases of Covid-19 infection were detected.

Over the past day, 11,165 tests for Covid-19 were done, the share of positive results was 9.6%.

Since the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic in Latvia, 81 109 people have been identified, 1538 people have died.

The 14-day cumulative incidence per 100,000 inhabitants is 513.1 cases.

The Center for Disease Prevention and Control on Friday released data on the 14-day cumulative incidence of COVID-19 per 100,000 population for the first half of February. In Latvia, it has gradually decreased over the week from 577 cases to 548. In Europe, this indicator is invariably less than the EU’s average of 305 cases per hundred thousand population.

The situation is still worse than the EU average – Latvia ranks sixth in terms of incidence.

Compared to the previous week, Estonia’s aggregate figure increased to 648.5 (previously 569.9).

Lithuania’s indicator dropped to 287.9 ​​(previously 353.3).
