100th anniversary of Eskişehir’s liberation from enemy occupation

The occupation, which started in Eskişehir on January 22, 1919, ended with liberation on September 2, 1922. Eskişehir Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Yılmaz Büyükerşen, in the message he published on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of Eskişehir’s liberation from enemy occupation, said, “Cities represent the people living in them. Eskişehir, which has paid great prices and suffered great pains, has come to these days with your unending love.”

Saying that they are living the 100th anniversary of Eskişehir’s liberation, Büyükerşen said, “When the heroic Turkish army under the command of the founder of the Republic, Mustafa Kemal Atatürk and his comrades, took Eskişehir back from the enemy, the city was in a state of devastation and exhaustion. This city, where there was literally no stone left on that day, has become a place that the whole country and the world look up to with envy today. Cities represent the people who live in them. Eskişehir, which has paid great prices and suffered great pains, has come to these days with your unending love. In order to understand the present of a city and build its future, it is necessary to never forget the past. If we forget this, we will never be able to adequately grasp the value of the city and country we have,” he said.
