President Yoon attended the ’58th Invention Day Ceremony’ held at the COEX Auditorium in Seoul this morning, encouraged inventors and conveyed the government’s will.

In particular, President Yoon repeatedly emphasized technology development and protection of inventions, saying, “We will protect the results of creativity and innovation through strong law enforcement against infringement such as technology leakage.” At the same time, he promised, “We will create an innovation ecosystem, such as financial support and startup vitalization, so that creative and innovative thinking and ideas can lead to economic and social achievement through commercialization of technology.”

He also urged future generations to think innovatively. “Uniform education is drying up children’s curiosity and creativity,” said President Yoon.

Referring to the Boston cluster he visited during his last visit to the United States, he said, “The free market mechanism, fair compensation system, and the government’s leading strategy are harmonizing to create new value.” “The inventors’ challenges and capabilities will serve as a driving force for economic growth and technological independence, as well as for everyone to enjoy the benefits of technology fairly and expand the freedom of citizens around the world,” he asked them to continue taking on challenges with unremitting enthusiasm.

On the other hand, about 1,000 people attended the ceremony, including awardees of merit on Invention Day, such as the Gold Tower Order of Industrial Service Merit, their families, young inventors who will lead the future of Korea, and public officials at the Korean Intellectual Property Office. Prior to the event, President Yoon watched a youth invention exhibition that solved inconveniences in daily life with novel ideas, and encouraged young inventors by demonstrating an ‘umbrella drying rack that can be stepped on with feet’ and a ‘recyclables compactor using discarded bicycles’.
